October 2022
October Is A Special Month For Us
First of all, on October 10, Frances and I will celebrate our seventieth wedding anniversary. I remember the day that my kid sister told me, “There’s a girl that just joined the choir, and you’ve got to meet her.” I brushed my sister aside and said I wasn’t interested. But on Sunday morning, I was there. I looked up and saw the prettiest girl I’d ever seen and immediately—immediately—everything changed. I found out what her name was, asked her for a date, and, she was reluctant, but she went. And it’s been nothing but heaven ever since. Happy anniversary, Sweetheart!
October is also the month that Frances and I started out in full-time ministry some sixty-seven years ago—an event absent of notice or fanfare. It wasn’t long ago that the Lord spoke to my heart and said, “Back in 1955, you were asking Me for meetings wherever the door would open, no matter how small the church was, and now you are asking Me for the entirety of the world.” That is still my prayer—for the Lord to open doors all over the world for the programming of SonLife Broadcasting, which He has done and continues to do. Praise God.
America
Like most in this country, I’m appalled, but not surprised, at what I see happening to the United States of America and to its citizens, especially to our former president. The greatest nation on the face of the earth is now being likened to a Third World country, a banana republic, and the current administration as a regime. That’s why I cannot stress enough how important it is for every Christian to vote, and to vote for those who stand for biblical values—life, religious freedom, marriage between a man and a woman, parental rights to raise godly children, and the like.
To put things in perspective, it’s important to understand that most of the governments of the world have always been, and presently are, guided by demon spirits, which steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).
The reason for the great blessings upon America, Canada, England, and Australia, as well as several other countries in the world, is because of biblical influence. Tragically, that influence is weakening and dying.
The Church
Such is happening because the churches are dying. No, they are not dying economically or numerically. In fact, they have never been better off regarding money and numbers. However, the true body of Christ is to be a vehicle through which the Spirit of God can flow, which, of course, is anchored in the Word of God. It is to preach the cross, in effect, holding up Christ and the cross as the sole answer to humanity and the problems of humanity. That is its sole purpose.
While money or numbers may or may not come, the church will be a positive influence only by the degree of its spirituality, and not by the degree of its finances or number of people on its rolls.
Tragically, the church has never been weaker in the spiritual sense, but it is deceived because of the money and the numbers, claiming such to be the blessings of the Lord. Israel was prosperous in an economic sense up to her destruction by Nebuchadnezzar; however, she had long since ceased to be prosperous in a spiritual sense, hence her doom.
Reformation And Revival
As most of you know Jerry Lee suffered a stroke about three years ago. It left him unable to play piano, and it has hindered his singing voice as well, as should be obvious. But I knew I wanted to do this project with my cousin, and I just knew the Lord could work everything out.
Also, this meant we had to find a way to get Jerry to Baton Rouge that would be easy for him, and there is no way to get to Baton Rouge commercially without connecting through an airport somewhere else.
As word got out about this project, a dear brother in our church actually offered us to use his airplane, which made things much easier in transporting Jerry Lee. All of us will be forever grateful.
Saturday Prayer Meetings
All that we are seeing take place now, I believe, is the reason the Lord put it on my heart several months back to begin a worldwide prayer meeting. These take place every Saturday at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. (CT), and we’re believing for you to take part as we seek the Lord, together, for souls around the world.
In the Master’s service, yours,
Jimmy Swaggart
